TIFF is excellent for archival and professional workflows, but it can be awkward to share. PNG is a more widely supported, lossless format that works well for documents and graphics.

If you want a lossless export that “just opens”, try: TIFF to PNG.

When TIFF to PNG is a good idea

PNG is a strong choice when:

  • You are sharing a scan that contains a lot of text
  • You need crisp edges (not JPG artifacts)
  • You want a lossless format for further editing

If the file needs to be smaller, JPG may be better:

What to expect from TIFF to PNG

TIFF files can contain a lot of information (high bit depth, large dimensions, sometimes multiple pages). PNG is a more “general purpose” format, so converting can make the file easier to open and share, but it won’t necessarily make it tiny.

In practice:

  • Text-heavy scans often look great as PNG.
  • Photo-heavy scans can become large as PNG (JPG might be a better delivery format).

Multi-page TIFF note

Some TIFF files contain multiple pages (common with certain scanners and archival workflows). If your TIFF has more than one page, you may need to convert the pages you care about individually, or export pages using a dedicated TIFF/PDF workflow.

For most “share this scan” use cases, converting a single page to PNG is enough.

Tips for better PNG exports

  • Keep it lossless for editing: PNG is a strong intermediate format when you plan to crop, annotate, or clean up scans.
  • Strip metadata for privacy: If you’re sharing scans, metadata can sometimes contain software and device details. Stripping is a safe default.
  • Consider web formats afterwards: If your final destination is a website, WebP can be smaller:

FAQ

  • Will TIFF to PNG preserve quality? PNG is lossless, so it preserves the image content you export. The biggest differences usually come from how the TIFF is interpreted (color profiles, bit depth).
  • Why is my PNG still big? That’s normal for high-resolution scans, especially photo-like scans. If you need smaller files, try JPG: TIFF to JPG.
  • Can I batch convert TIFF files? Yes. You can convert up to 20 files at a time and download the results.
  • Is this private? Yes. QuickImager converts locally in your browser with no uploads.

If you’re unsure, convert one page first, then batch the rest.
